Kim is a licensed professional counselor and a mental health service provider with her supervisor’s license. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Baylor University in Waco, TX. After a year spent working full time at a Christian camp in East Texas, Kim then earned her master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. While at DTS, Kim worked at Watermark Community Church in Dallas, TX where she led a teen girls recovery group and at City House in Plano, TX counseling kids, teens, and their families in crisis situations.
Since completing her education, Kim has worked in a variety of settings. Upon graduation Kim worked at Watermark in the pastoral care department working alongside various recovery ministries of the church. Kim was able to grow her clinical skills in helping others through a biblical framework in this setting. Kim has also worked at Youth Villages in Memphis as a residential counselor for children and teens where she was able to conduct individual, family, and group therapy sessions on a weekly basis.
Kim has been at HeartLife for over 9 years and has experience specifically in the areas of trauma, OCD, parental divorce, co-parenting, behavioral issues/anger, body image, eating disorders, self-harm, life transitions, loss, anxiety, and depression. Kim has a cognitive behavioral orientation in her therapy while using a biblical framework and approach; giving practical solutions as well as looking at the deeper struggles that exist. She also believes that every person who comes for counseling is an individual, and she strives to understand individual needs by utilizing an array of art and play therapies when appropriate, including sand tray therapy. Kim is passionate about the mission to help people through life’s difficulties and challenges by embracing the One that can heal. Kim also believes in the power of the local church and the importance of true Biblical community.
Kim enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 sons enjoying the beauty of God’s creation: hiking, kayaking, playing, and running. Kim finds joy in being creative though cooking and art. Kim is also passionate about building into the relationships with those in her community; believing that none of us were meant to do life alone.
