Your Holiday To-Do List
With all of the hustle and bustle surrounding the holiday season, you are sure to have a long list of things to do before Christmas. And, unlike Santa, you’ve likely checked your list way more than twice! But what about adding a few things to that list and positioning them way up top?
We have four tasks that will not only help clear your mind, but also put the focus on the true meaning of Christmas…Jesus and our loved ones:
Take a walk outside on a daily basis, and take a deep breath to allow fresh air into your lungs. Research shows that exposing your lungs to fresh air can help relieve stress and anxiety. Oxygen is said to affect the levels of serotonin released in the body, which contributes to feelings of happiness and relaxation.
Light a candle with your quiet time, preferably holiday scented. Research reveals the smell of peppermint can increase alertness and provide relaxation for those suffering from stress and anxiety.
Be “present” with family. Spend quality time with your spouse, children, siblings, and parents. Set the phone aside and pay attention to the smiles, laughter, and the feelings in the moment. Then, commit them to memory. We are not promised tomorrow, and time is precious.
Share a meal with friends. This encourages us to be more mindful in the moment as we focus on the company and atmosphere. This mindfulness can aid in reducing stress, and provide feelings of happiness and gratitude.
